Description
Elements Included
The main elements of this resource are the 31 square images representing each composer. I recommend either printing them on cardstock or having them printed as square photo prints at your print shop of choice. I have included image files as well as this PDF so that you can choose which way is best for you to print. Extra elements include a large “Female Composers” title, other text elements and four large composer silhouettes. You will receive a 47-page PDF as well as 41 image files, to give you flexibility in printing.
Why Female Composers?
It has become increasingly clear that although we have traditionally learned only about male composers, there have actually been thousands of incredible women who have composed music all throughout history; for many reasons these women have been forgotten and written out of history. It is important to learn about these women because they were there! They lived and worked and composed in the same circles as the famous male composers we all know and love. Many of them enjoyed popularity and fame during their lifetimes. They wrote beautiful music that is worth listening to. And more importantly, we need to show all of our students that girls can compose too. All of us need musical role models that look like us, and learning about these women along with the great male composers enhances our knowledge, perspective and inspiration. Thank you for sharing these women with your students! Working together we can change the music history narrative to include these talented composers.
